Zzzahara is the Los Angeles-based artist best known for popular songs like “I’d Like You to Leave” and their tracks “On-Fye” as part of The Simps. Now, a few years of non-stop touring and writing new music has taken zzzahara on their latest journey: releasing one of 2025’s most celebrated albums so far, Spiral Your Way Out.
The LP’s release was a result of zzzahara literally spiraling their way out of several situations: there was a messy end to a relationship, they suffered a period of isolation and had exhaustive schedules on the road. The ground under zzzahara in recent years was literally scorched earth.
They managed to burst away from this nastiness, chaos and all around ick by spending three months in the recording studio. Zzzahara aggressively laid down songs and released their energy with a fiery tone that gave Spiral Your Way Out an edge that hadn’t existed on their other records Tender, liminal spaces and Siblings.
Spiral Your Way Out ended up with many rocking riffs, like the one heard on the single “Ghosts.” It’s a guitar driven song where zzzahara’s sweet sounding vocals discuss all the bad things another person has done to them, including, but not limited to, sneaking around and getting the best of them. What zzzahara proposes to themselves and listeners who find this situation relatable, is to find a way out by all means neccesary. On other songs such as “In Your Head” and closing track “NY NY,” zzzahara works to find a number of solutions to overcoming the tough times.
Only zzzahara can say if they’ve found light on the other side, but it’s possible recent success has provided some shine. Fresh off the release of Spiral Your Way Out, zzzahara is hitting the road and touring to promote the new record. Here’s what they’re feeling now that the album is out, plus a glimpse at the upcoming tour and what’s next for them musically. A full list of upcoming zzzahara tour dates can be found below. Tickets for the tour can be purchased here.
Beyond The Stage: Your new record Spiral Your Way Out was released earlier this year. How do you feel now that it’s out in the world?
Zzzahara: I feel stoked that it’s out, yet kind of indifferent. It’s hard to explain. I’ve been trying not to have any expectations about music lately.
BTS: Spiral Your Way Out came out just 15 months after your previous record Tender. How did you find time to work on another full-length release throughout the past year and what was that process like?
Zzzahara: I don’t really have any other outlets other than making music. I feel the need to write and record is always something that is a constant. I kept to myself a lot between that period in time so it gave me a lot of free time. The process was emotional for sure, but also felt like the answer to my problems at the time. Felt cathartic.
BTS: The bulk of your upcoming tour is coming up. You’ve already performed some one off shows in New York and California. How are you enjoying playing your newest songs in front of fans?
Zzzahara: Playing the new songs is for sure fun, but challenging. There are so many moving parts in them! I was a little afraid about how my fans would react to a change in genre, but they seem to love it so far.
BTS: Speaking of tour, what’s something you’re especially excited about on this upcoming stretch?
Zzzahara: I’m excited to connect with different audiences and explore new towns. My favorite part about the tour is always the cuisine and the history of the places we play.
BTS: You recently posted on Instagram that you were shooting and featuring in a commercial. Is the new record creating fresh and exciting opportunities for you?
Zzzahara: I was in a small NHL x Discovery commercial. Yes and no, I just happen to have friends in the advertising business. In terms of opportunities…some of my favorite producers and artists have reached out to get in the studio together. I’m really stoked on working with more folks. “In Your Head,” also keeps getting played on KROQ. It’s always been a dream of mine since a kid to be on KROQ.
BTS: What do you get out of songwriting? Is it for you, the fans? Both? Some secret third thing?
Zzzahara: It’s the only healthy expression I have and have used as a coping tool. It’s for my mental health, mental clarity, and if it happens to help the fans then that’s an added bonus. Music has always been therapeutic for me and spoke for all the words I couldn’t articulate so if it helps others that’s a plus.
BTS: Any plans for 2025 besides touring? Shooting a new video, writing with new people? Tell us what excites you most about the future and upcoming plans.
Zzzahara: Definitely just writing all year and working with others. I haven’t written for anyone, but have been offered so I might try that this year. I’m just excited to keep growing as an artist and to keep expanding my team. I’m stoked to try more studios and play on cooler instruments. I hope something cool happens that changes my life for the better. That’s all I can hope for.
BTS: Anything else you want listeners to know right now?
Zzzahara: I always sound like a broken record with this question…I just want to let them know that they shouldn’t give up on working towards what they love and that their authenticity will carry them.
