Viral alternative pop sensation Zolita released a new song, “I F*cking Love You,” on Wednesday, the final installment in the 27-year-old singer’s trilogy of catchy, candid and carefully crafted tracks dropped within the last year.
Zolita cut deep into the hearts of her fanbase with “Somebody I F*cked Once” in May 2021. It’s a tune all about a teetering mind, wondering if they should be full-blown obsessed with a prospective partner, or if a mostly meaningless hookup is all that should ever be pursued. Zolita admits that rubbing elbows is all this relationship could ever be good for, and that’s okay until cuffing season comes around.
The second of Zolita’s trilogy tracks was “Single in September,” which picked up where the last tune ended. But now Zolita is asking for more.
“We had a hot, hot summer// Wish it would last forever, laying in bed together with you // But I’m single in September when I didn’t want to be // Kinda thought that when I left, you would come running after me,” she sings.
Zolita, who showcases LGBTQ+ stories and relationships that feel familiar to all 20 somethings, is now turning back her mind on hookups and wants a genuine connection.
After so much questioning, Zolita has finally become content with her choices on “I F*cking Love You,” the most hopeful song of the trilogy. Even then, she is very open about her insecurities and is almost afraid to slip and say “I love you” to this person she’s been toying with for a year. It’s a vulnerable tune that hits the most emotions.
I F*cking Love You,” combines all three songs’ meanings while seemingly answering the question posed by opener “Somebody I F*cked Once” That is: When faced with the choice between easy pleasures and lasting devotion, Zolita is picking the latter.
