Musical inspiration comes in many forms but for rising singer Zoë Moss the inspiration came a bit differently. After a car accident in 2011, Moss decided to pursue her passion for music. Since then, the Brooklyn-based artist has released a few singles along with working with some of the most talented artists including Andy Grammar, Grace VanderWaal and Jordyn Jones.
Her newest single “The Jackal,” is the third single from her debut EP, Stories. While “The Jackal” has been out for a month now, Moss released a simple lyric video today. The EP illustrates Moss’ experience as a young musician. “The Jackal” follows her latest singles “The Operator” and “The Fantasy.” It’s the most personal song on the EP as Moss is vulnerable about a past relationship that ended without closure. Writing the single was a form of therapy as Moss says “After many sleepless nights going over what I could have said and done differently with this person, I woke up one day and decided to write everything I wish I had said to them into one song.” It’s a single that most can relate to when it comes to relationships as she sings “all i wanted was for you to choose me, but you only ever chose me when you thought that you’d lose me.”
Taking inspiration from artists like Prince, Madonna and Frank Ocean, Zoë Moss creates her own blended sound of R&B and pop. An artist on a journey to forge her own path in music while still staying true to her indie-pop roots.
