With three years having passed since the release of Charmer, Tigers Jaw is back–and they have a lot of exciting news to share.
The number of original members may have decreased to just the two–Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins–but that doesn’t seem to be stopping them. The band went through a breakup of sorts, with the other three members staying through the recording of Charmer before making their departure. However, Tigers Jaw is here to show that they’ve still got it, whatever “it” may be, and their new song “Guardian” is definitely helping them prove it.
The video for “Guardian” is a compilation of studio footage, with Ben, Brianna, and producer Will Yip starting things off with a toast. There’s a lot of goofing around, which adds its own charm, a lot of basketball, some raiding of Will Yip’s fridge, and general tinkering with instruments. “Guardian” itself as a song is beautifully composed and put together, Ben and Brianna’s voices working together harmoniously to create that nice indie rock sound. “Burn a candle to my skin. Turn the handle, let me in,” the duo sings. “I cannot be your guardian anymore.”
“Guardian” is the first single off of the band’s upcoming album, spin, which will be released via Black Cement Records, a new label headed by Atlantic Records and overseen by Will Yip, who has worked closely with Tigers Jaw for many years. spin will be available May 19, which is, coincidentally, the day the band embarks on their U.S. tour with Saintseneca and Smidley (which happens to be Foxing vocalist Conor Murphy’s solo project). A list of tour dates is available here, and tickets go on sale Friday, March 24 at 10 AM local time. Pre-orders for spin, including web exclusive bundles, go on sale tomorrow, March 23, on the band’s website.
Welcome back, Tigers Jaw. We’ve missed you.
