Diamond-selling Toronto artist The Weeknd’s most popular song ever “Blinding Lights” was the best-selling single of 2020 worldwide and led him to headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The song was recognized by the IFPI with the “Global Digital Single Award,” marking his first IFPI honor. On top of his major success throughout the past year, he recently broke two more records.
His chart-topping fourth album, After Hours, has garnered multiple new certifications from the RIAA. With the help of standout tracks “Save Your Tears,” “After Hours,” and “In Your Eyes” which all progressed to platinum, the album has reached double-platinum status.
Additionally, his best-selling single “Blinding Lights” has officially been minted seven-times platinum. He has officially accumulated over 80 million RIAA Digital Song Certifications, placing him in the “Top 10 Most Digital Single Certifications of All Time.” It has also accumulated over two billion streams on Spotify and is the fastest song in history to reach that milestone.
Even bigger than that, “Blinding Lights” just spent its 52nd week in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first song to even be in the top 10 for a full year. Just a few weeks prior, it made history as the first song to rank in the top 10 for 50 weeks. Despite its 2019 release, the song is still going strong in 2021 and brought The Weeknd back to the number one spot on the Artist 100, totaling 21 weeks on top.
Yeah, we know what you’re thinking. The Grammy’s really messed up!
The Weeknd also announced “The After Hours World Tour” new and rescheduled dates back in early February. It will begin on January 14, 2022 in Vancouver and end November 18 of that year in Glasglow, equating to 104 shows.

We are so excited to see the glass ceilings The Weeknd and “Blinding Lights” continue to break!
