Okay so we are sure that by now you have seen the tweets, but if not, here they are:
The 1975 and Drive Like I Do are separate entities

BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THE 1975? Here are some theories we have:
-
- The 1975 will end. Yes, none of us want this to happen, but it seems pretty obvious at this point. It’s even laid out for us in that second tweet. The 1975 will release a trilogy of albums, then come to an end. Though the tweet says trilogy of albums, this doesn’t rule out that the band will be playing festivals, putting out new merch and touring.
- Drive Like I Do Will consist of the same members, being a separate era of the group that is currently known as The 1975. The band will continue on through that, with a different style of music. The band has been hinting at this, with their upcoming record being called “Music For Cars”. That alone could have easily been a hint that they were going back to their roots. The band has also been playing Drive Like I Do before their shows, as shown in the tweet below:

- The 1975 is not just a band name. The 1975 is and has always been the name of an era. This isn’t the end of The 1975 as a band, but an era in their career called “The 1975”. Their next era will be called “Drive Like I Do”, and that will be a trilogy of albums also, as noted in an interview with NME. Matty said “It’s always been called that and we were always going to do a trilogy of records. I’m not saying that after this record it’s the end of The 1975 but it’s definitely the end of an era”. In this theory, which is supported by the man himself, The 1975 will continue on.
But you may be wondering, “Why have they done this to me? Why release info on a band that won’t be anything for the next few years? What does this all mean?”. To that, we say, WE HAVE NO CLUE, and judging by the ambiguity of their tweets, we probably won’t know until they want us to. BUT let us not grieve in this time of overwhelming news, nothing is set. Remember, The 1975 still is touring, will put out another album and probably tour that for a year or two, so for the time being we should cherish what we have.
