The 1975 has officially begun a new era, releasing “Part Of The Band” as their first solo single in two years, with fans anxiously awaiting the Oct. 14 release of fifth studio album Being Funny in a Foreign Language. The already posted tracklist shows the new single as track four of eleven.
The rollout of the new era began just one month ago when the band shared a series of black and white photos to Twitter. The day before the song’s release, their feed transformed into a series of royal blue and white posters.

“Part Of The Band” is certainly indicative of a new sound. While many fans gravitate to the band’s older music, their newest single is well-written with Matty Healy’s amusing reflections on his life and love life keeping us listening closely. While the lyrics may be somewhat corny, the incorporated string arrangement makes the song much more charming.
The song is co-produced by Jack Antonoff and seemingly about some of Healy’s favorite topics: sex, substances and seduction. However, overall the song focuses largely on the ins and outs of Healy’s everyday life.
The accompanying music video, also completely in black and white, adds to the peculiar yet classy vibe, with band members playing games and instruments.
Shortly before the release, Healy randomly appeared on Reddit to answer questions about the upcoming album. The communication seems to be another hopeful sign that the band is back online engaging with fans. In his comment, Healy hinted at future interviews and stated that a song he performed as an opener for Phoebe Bridgers is not under a different name and will not appear on the album.
No matter what they release, the 1975 has proven their uniqueness and music ability. We can’t wait to hear what they have in store.
