Aruba’s 18-year-old alt-indie artist TEENAGEFEVERDREAMS lives up to his name with his newest summer single “Tuesdays” which came out today. Oozing with stories of young love and the carefree energy that comes with being in your late teens, it takes you back to the early 2010s where you’re watching a coming of age, teenage romance comedy with your mom in case she has to fast forward through the “inappropriate” bits. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist delivers an alternative and inventive offering that brings you right back to the songs that made you love your childhood while keeping it fresh and modern, perfectly blending two different eras.
Mixed and co-produced by collaborator and fellow alt-pop head Eddie Evergreen, the two have been collaborating after meeting through a Jean Dawson Discord chat. With a chorus consisting of “teenage kids with no time to waste,” it’s hard not to smile when reminiscing on middle and high school romps and imagining a true teen summer love.
TEENAGEFEVERDREAMS is the creative alias of Angelo Werleman. He didn’t have much exposure to music that didn’t play on Aruba’s top 40 radio station while growing up which lead him to discovering other music through the power of a VPN in early 2017. Spotify became his new best friend and helped him hone in on his love of alt-pop music. Seething with creativity, he has defined his sound as a special blend of true-to-self ballads overflowing with nostalgia and heart and the alt-pop sound trademarks he loved.
His sound is heavily influenced by leaders in the alt-pop space, including Jimi Somewhere, Jack Larsen, and the aforementioned Jean Dawson. After teaching himself guitar, production, and the songwriting process, it’s impressive to see how far the alt-pop prodigy has come in just a year’s time of experimenting on his computer. Each offering focuses on his friendships and relationships growing up on the island and how his upcoming journey of moving away to Europe for university will transform him. There is still plenty of room for TEENAGEFEVERDREAMS to express genuine and relatable feelings on every following track, which is why we plan on keeping up with him as he continues to explore the music space and find his voice.
