Taylor Swift has made her way back into the headlines after one of the biggest surprise album releases we’ve seen. The singer dropped her eighth studio album, Folklore, as a surprise to her fans during quarantine. It’s safe to say that there was a unanimous agreement among the Swifties that this album was everything we needed. Aside from the lyrical genius behind this album, it has placed Swift on the top of the Billboard 200 Album charts for the past seven weeks in a row.
Swift is no stranger to holding the number one spot as this is her 47th week throughout her entire career being ranked number one on the Billboard charts. This has earned her the title of most weeks at number one by a woman on the Billboard charts. Prior to this, Whitney Houston held the record for the past 33 weeks. The charts are based on album sales in the United States and are updated weekly.
It seems as though this surprise album came at the perfect time for Taylor Swift. She not only provided her fans with an incredible soundtrack for quarantine, but she also got to incorporate live versions of these new songs. She recently made her way back to the Academy Country Music Awards where she performed her single “Betty” for the first time. Additionally, Swift has been marketing her albums in a way that brings in album sales instead of just streams. She has released different merchandise bundles and signed copies of the album to stores all over the country bringing in a huge revenue stream from fans. It’s clear that Taylor Swift knows what she’s doing and still remains at the top of her game. Folklore is available on all streaming platforms.
