Popular rising star Tate McRae released her newest song and collaboration with Canadian rapper and singer Ali Gatie “Lie To Me.” It is her eighth single of 2020, following the recent release of “don’t be sad” on August 20.
Two Canadians, the music video was filmed in the Calgary Central Library in her hometown by Kid. Studio. It includes both artists and some dancing by McRae, showing her dancing talent learned from her mother, a dance educator. The music video was broadcasted on MTV Live and MTVU for the premiere.
In the video caption on her YouTube, McRae said “SO UM ALI GATIE AND I FINALLY COLLABED!!!! GUYS i hope you enjoy this music video. it was such a great time to film. we filmed it from 7pm-6am! love you guys sooo much! this is ‘lie to me.’”

“Working with Ali was a really amazing experience,” McRae said. “I’ve always loved his music so I’m super stoked to finally release this collaboration. We wrote the whole thing over FaceTime in quarantine! It was crazy.”
McRae, a previous Beyond the Stage feature artist, is gaining popularity quickly. She recently collaborated on a “Boys Ain’t Shit” remix by SAYGRACE with Audrey Mika. The remix has accumulated over 19 million streams on Spotify alone after the original went viral on TikTok. She also collaborated on her song “Vicious” with Lil Mosey, which was released in June.
Next Monday on October 21, she will make her late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! by singing her single “broke me first,” which is gold in the US, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and Sweden.
The single has amassed around 300 million streams across platforms and is rising on the Top 40 Radio chart. On Spotify, it is in the Top 15 on the Global 200 Chart and is on the platform’s #1 playlist Today’s Top Hits for the sixth week in a row. The song also helped her gain a spot in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Emerging Artist Chart.

Since his first independent release two years ago, Ali Gatie has received more than three million streams from his songs “What If I Told You That I Love You,” “Say To You,” “It’s You,” and “Moonlight.”
His debut EP YOU reached RIAA platinum status for his popular single “It’s You.” The music video has over 69 million views on YouTube. The single spent 13 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 and helped him sell out his first six shows in under 10 minutes.

Gatie’s songs straddle the pop and R&B genres and speak on topics like vulnerability, love, and devotion. His sincerity in his music has helped him grow his fanbase by allowing them to relate to and hold on to his lyrics.
These two rising artists teaming up could be just what we all needed in 2020.
