There’s no doubt that you’ve seen the letters SXSW floating around the Internet for the past week or so, and to explain, SXSW is an acronym for South by Southwest and is a set of film, interactive, music festivals and conferences that take place every spring (typically around March time) in downtown Austin, Texas. As it stands, SXSW is the largest music festival of its kind; founded in 1987, it has grown in both popularity and size with every passing year. This year, Austin will be home to an astounding number of artists/bands… over 1,800! That’s crazy! But you know what they say about Texas, right?
Big-name performers include: Vampire Weekend, Deadmau5, Paramore, fun., Tegan and Sara, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce’s younger sister, Solange Knowles. You can also look forward to performances by Semi Precious Weapons, Icona Pop, Skye Ferreira, Charli XCX, rapper Kendrick Lamar and Earl Sweatshirt from OFWGKTA. In order to attend the full 6 days of festivities, you will need to obtain a registration badge, which unfortunately retails at a whooping $795, but if for some reason, you manage to have that much money laying around, I would definitely try and go. There are a ton of musicians present from every genre possible worth seeing. The wait is almost over – the musical portion of South by Southwest officially kicks off tomorrow evening, capping off on Sunday, March 17th.
Be there, or be square.
