Classically trained as a flamenco guitarist at Berklee College of Music, Stefan T. is switching things up by hopping into the modern electronica scene with his new single “No Matter”. Released today via Wayward Son Music in LA, the production weaves organic instruments with processed synth sounds. The song is the first piece released in conjunction with an EP he is developing with the help of drummer Max Kelly of Bantamweight and a string quartet.
A song about his woman, Stefan T. explains it is specifically about the first time he saw her. “‘No Matter’ is about the time I first laid eyes on my lady. I was mesmerized, and I wasn’t going to let her slip away. We’ve both felt like we’ve been dancing ever since.”
He envisions the single as a hypnotic dance between two people with a heavy funk influence accented with offbeat syncopated rhythms, different from his usual “straightforward” approach. However, despite his typical approach, Stefan T. doesn’t limit himself to any genre of music because he likes the freedom to explore different expressions of his emotions.
Stefan T. discovered this new passion for electronic music production we hear in “No Matter” after high school. “I used my guitar background to get into Berklee and majored in Electronic Music Production and Sound Design to refine my production chops,” he said.
After graduating from college, Stefan T. relocated to the city of angels, Los Angeles. There he worked in various studios to learn the ins and outs of the recording industry, helping him get the opportunity to write and play the guitar + bass on XXXTENTACION’s songs “Revenge” and “Depression and Obsession” back in 2017. Recently, he’s continued to collaborate with artists such as Nessa Barrett, Roderick Porter, Matt Ox, and Wario Slim.
These previous experiences in the music industry have encouraged him to go beyond writing and playing the guitar to release his own music as an indivdiual artist. The act of creating something from nothing, and the possibility of lifting someone up with his work, are why he does what does. Stefan T. wants his music to heal, bring peace, bring joy, and let others know they are not alone.
