Bruno Mars is back to bring us more magic.
We’re still crooning over Mars and Anderson .Paak’s first single off their Silk Sonic project, “Leave The Door Open.” It is an instant hit that’s been on replay ever since it came out. It’s good to have them back.
We all know how talented Bruno Mars. He’s an amazing singer, songwriter and an electrifying performer. I mean, we all knew that from his Super Bowl performance.
The Hawaiian native rose to prominence in 2010 after being featured on smash hits “Nothin’ On You” with B.o.B. and “Billionaire” with Travie McCoy. Shortly after, he released his first single “Just The Way You Are” off his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, both of which were received with critical acclaim.
As the years went on, album after album, hit after hit, Mars solidified himself as one of the biggest pop stars in the world. But like many great musicians before starting their solo careers, he has lent his songwriting talents to other artists.
Bruno Mars and fellow songwriter, Philip Lawrence, are an inseparable production team, having written songs for a myriad number of artists dating all the way back to 2008!
They have formed songwriting teams such as The Smeezingtons, a trio which consisted of Mars, Lawrence and Ari Levine, and now Shampoo Press & Curl, the same trio but with Christopher Brody Brown replacing Levine.
Mars brings a certain magic that just literally turns everything to gold, whether that be his own music or others. Here’s a list of some songs that you may (or may not) know had Mars’s 24K all over it.
“Bow Chicka Wow Wow” – Mike Posner
As with a lot of songs on this list, it will take you back to a much simpler time. Coming off his hit song, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner connects with Lil Wayne for “Bow Chicka Wow Wow.” Mars and his Smeezington writing mates helped co-write and co-produce this sexy jam with Posner.
“Right Round” – Flo Rida
The year is 2009, back when everyone was still playing FarmVille, raging over Avatar and Kanye didn’t let Taylor finish. Flo Rida was at the top of the Pop genre, topping charts with “Right Round” featuring a young Ke$ha. Mars was among one of the many writers who helped make this song a hit.
“Rocketeer” – Far East Movement
We told you, we’re in a time capsule. Remember Far East Movement? We sure do. “Rocketeer” was such a huge hit in 2010, spending 20 weeks at the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number seven. Mars and The Smeezingtons get credit for writing this throwback jam as well. Not only that, Mars’s vocals was used for the original recording, before ultimately going with Ryan Tedder. Rumor has it that Mars’s version is still circulating somewhere on the internet.
“Wavin’ Flag” – K’Naan
Originally released in 2009, the song was remixed and remastered as it became the anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Mars was one of the two producers who helped create this uplifting international anthem. He’s even included in the music video. Can you spot him?
“Tears Always Win” – Alicia Keys
In our opinion, “Tears Always Win” is one of the sleeper gems off of Alicia Keys’s album Girl On Fire. Mars and Lawrence collaborate with Alicia Keys to write this sad song of loneliness.
“All I Ask” – Adele
This has The Smeezingtons written all over it. Adele, Mars, Lawrence, and Brody made one of the most beautiful yet emotional ballads in recent memory. The English singer has stated that she had a lot of fun working with him.
Wish there was a Bruno Mars version? Wish granted! Check out his live performance of “All I Ask” on BBC Radio 1.
“Forget You” – Cee Lo Green
Now who can forget this legendary song? This infamous Cee Lo Green hit was the best-selling song of 2011, moving over 1.86 million copies in 2011 alone. Mars was involved in this too? Yes, indeed! He wrote and produced this track along with the rest of The Smeezingtons, earning them Grammy nominations for Song of the Year.
Bruno Mars came back with a bang. Now he’s teaming up with Anderson .Paak to create what looks to be a soulful, funky experience and we can’t wait. Do we see more Grammys coming their way?
