Frances took the stage at a packed Riviera Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. On tour with James Bay, the singer-songwriter from the UK had an incredible voice and clearly showcased it to a large audience. With a soul spotlight on Frances and her keyboard, purple light surrounded Frances while she played an incredible set. For more than thirty minutes, Frances sang her soul out on stage to the sold out audience. James Bay lovers instantly gravitated towards her Adele-like voice and quickly put away their phones to hear the redhead sing. The emotion displayed on Frances’ face as she belted out soulful lyrics meant that her songs were true to her heart and the audience instantly caught onto her truthfulness. After a few original songs, Frances transitioned into her cover of Bieber’s “What Do You Mean,” which really got the audience going. The audience sang along with Frances as she belted out some of the most popular lyrics in music and some, who had clearly done their research, pulled up Frances’ cover of the popular song on YouTube.
Although Frances’ was just one woman on the stage, her sound filled the entire packed Riviera Theater. Her voice echoed into the smallest nooks and crannies, but filled the open spaces and grabbed listeners’ attention. With an incredible vocal range, her highest highs and her lowest lows were more than just the average sound. Each lyric was raw and emotional, yet playful and fun, with Frances cracking a laugh or a smile every few notes. Her stage presence was genuine and confident and that in its all will definitely take Frances somewhere. But more than just a beautiful voice, anyone with musical knowledge could tell that Frances’ real talent was playing the piano, as her accompaniments were just as strong as her voice, if not stronger. With a joyful smile, Frances truly grabbed the attention of Chicago music lovers and made them want to grab a copy of her music. The sold out crowd was impressed by her commanding voice and incredible musical talent, and clearly brought a talkative crowd to a silence. Just as the audience started to get a feel for Frances, she unfortunately said her goodbyes, but not without a huge applause from the Chicago crowd.
