Canadian singer-songwriter Sam Weber has been on the rise for a little while now and his music is not something to be missed out on. Today he dropped his new single “Already Know” and it surely encompasses all that he is as an artist.
The 28-year-old musician has committed himself for the last decade to perfecting his craft and putting out great music. Now based in Los Angeles, Weber is known for being a multidimensional artist who not only writes but also plays the piano and guitar and produces. He really does it all. Since he first picked up the guitar at age 12, Weber has developed as a musician through three albums and one EP. He has been touring with his band since 2013 and is currently accompanying fellow Canadian musician Bahamas.
“Already Know” is the third single Weber has released from his upcoming album. The three-minute 15-second track is catchy right off the bat with a drum and guitar feature. There is a smooth tempo that inherently makes you start tapping your foot along with the beat. Weber’s voice is soft yet smooth. He’s not trying too hard to be inauthentic, which we can all appreciate.
Weber explained:
“‘Already Know’ started as a very traditional song, kind of a waltz acoustic guitar thing that wasn’t really much of anything. But I liked the lyrics a lot and when I played it for Mallory [Hauser, co-producer], her instinct was to stretch it out into straight time with these free time sections. Once I figured out a new way to sing it, the song came together in a really beautiful way. It’s not a total Paul Simon diss-track, but the last verse does discuss the rumor of him stealing the idea for ‘The Myth of Fingerprints’ from Los Lobos.”
As the song progresses, the beat starts to pick up and it’s clear that there is a little bit of folk influence mixed with soft rock. Weber somehow seamlessly meshes chill with upbeat and we are definitely impressed. It’s evident that he puts a lot of thought into his music and it feels really real, almost as if he is singing directly to you. “Already Know” would make a great driving song, which makes us even more excited to see what kind of vibe the rest of his upcoming album will bring.
Set to go public in February 2022, Weber’s upcoming album Get Free will be on all of our radars. “Here’s to the Future” and “Money” were the first two songs of 10 to be released and if they are anything like the rest of the album, we know it will be a hit record. The album is said to “reach fresh emotional depths, commanding more expressive personal moments than ever before.”
Composed of different layers and emotions, “Already Know” perfectly captures Weber’s musical style. His music contains elements that differentiate him from others and we cannot wait to see what his future will look like.
