Less than nine months after dropping her sophomore album EVOLution, Sabrina Carpenter is back with a new single that is extremely catchy and could predict the successful future of her career.
“Why?” released Friday (July 7) is a tale about Carpenter playing a game of opposites attract between her and her boy. It’s incredibly catchy, and her vocals prove a sense of maturity and growth since her sophomore release.
“This song happened very quickly,” Carpenter tells Billboard. “We started with the first line of the song — ‘You like New York City in the daytime; I like New York City in the night time’ — and from there, the song kind of wrote itself. It’s basically [about] these differences that we all have, that keep us different from one another but at the same time glue us together. … I like to say it’s very conversational, which some of my other songs haven’t been before.”
The song is infectious and once you play it, you’ll be asking why it has to end. You can listen to the track below or stream it on Apple Music.
