One of the coolest things about music is the ability to grow up with and truly exist with a song, a record, an artist, etc. The first record that connects to your soul can be a life-changing moment and that’s how it was for our Managing Editor, Addie Whelan:
“When I was really first introduced to music, I was 5. I was put into piano lessons, then violin lessons the next year, both of them classical. For a while, I was listening to everything everyone else was. But as I grew up, I realized how important songs with true meaning were to me. So when I was in high school, I accidentally came across The Temper Trap’s debut album, Conditions, on GoodMusicAllDay.com. Calling it an obsession was not even close to how I felt about this album, it was practically a love story. We were together constantly, lyrics from Love Lost or Sweet Disposition written across every single notebook I had for years, my friends knowing the songs from being played constantly in my car and so much more.
From that moment on, I have always considered Conditions to be an album that really influenced my music taste. Suddenly, I was spending weekends reading about music, subscribing to Rolling Stone, paying more attention to my writing and most importantly, the music scene. For years, I’ve been waiting for The Temper Trap to re-press Conditions to vinyl, since really the only copies that exist are hundreds of dollars. Finally, a few months ago, they released the news that they re-pressed it and I couldn’t have been more happy. Conditions has a song that is special to everyone, from my personal Mantra, Soldier On, to the most popular song on the album, Sweet Disposition, it’s truly an album that influenced who I am.”
