The coolest thing about music is its connectivity. We all have that one album we reach for when life feels too heavy or lonely or off in any way. We hope you listen to that album this week if you need it. And maybe you’ll discover a new one, thanks to Penelope Martinez for this week’s #ROTW:
“Although every inch of me was saying that I should choose American Candy by The Maine, I have to bring attention to yet another incredible band: Have Mercy. The band’s entire discography is often playing in my car when I take long drives around my state to clear my head, yet I’m not very vocal about how great they are. A Place of Our Own came into my life at a time when I most needed it. Specifically, the song “Two Years” came on my Spotify at the exact moment I needed to hear it. Recently having dropped out of college, I was having a hard time finding the reason for my sadness and general mood. And then these lyrics blasted through my headphones “I had a life and I had friends. And I miss all of them.” And I knew that was what I was experiencing. No one had explained how lonely college could be, but here was the answer I was looking for. A Place of Our Own is a brilliant album by one of the best bands and it’s one of the few albums that I can’t imagine life without.”
