Not to burst everyone’s bubble, but summer is coming to an end (sad face) — unless you’re Kylie Hughes! Resembling a ray of sunshine everywhere she goes, this country-pop songstress is soon to be on everyone’s radar. Along with traveling across the world and spending her days outdoors (which you can check out on her Instagram), Hughes released her self-titled LP Kylie Hughes back in May. Reminding us of the fiery, passionate Carrie Underwood and the American sweetheart Kelsea Ballerini, Hughes contains all the ingredients for a superstar.
Kylie Hughes kicks off with the feisty track “Heat,” a sassy admittance of an intense love everyone notices. Between the banjo and the slight twang of her vocals, this track establishes Hughes as a country artist. Though, the rest of the album is a perfect combination of strong guitar riffs and pop vocals, allowing every listener to find a track they love. And what would make a more exemplary country-pop artist than sprinkling an album with powerful love ballads?
The middle tracks are a slow, comforting break in the album. “Love Somebody Else” is a soft, piano-driven ballad about a lost love. “Little Did You Know” (our personal favorite on the album) is the iconic country-pop acoustic love song (with a 10/10 key change). It’s the feeling we can all relate to: where the other person doesn’t see what’s right in front of them and now it’s too late. However, the album takes a positive turn towards the end.
Hughes channels her inner Kacey Musgraves with “I Can’t Believe We’re in Love,” an optimistic realization that love is the coolest thing in the entire world and it’s worth all the effort. Overall, Kylie Hughes is a bright introduction to one of the newest and most exciting artists in the industry. And she totally seems like someone you’d want as your best friend.
