Recently, this five piece group released their ninth (yes, ninth!) full-length album, Fading West.
I know what you’re thinking.
“Switchfoot? Dude, what happened to those guys?”
Yeah, well, I’m about to tell you right now.
Let’s throw it back to a good five or six years ago when these guys released a few singles – Meant to Live and Dare You To Move. Ringing a bell, right? Well, since then they’ve released a few live albums and some remixes, but now they’ve really outdone themselves.
When I first heard about the release of this record, I was really into the single Love Alone is Worth the Fight after it popped up on my iTunes radio. So, I went over to the ever so wonderful Spotify to give the rest of it a listen and I was insanely impressed from the get-go. The sound that this record possesses is so undeniably Switchfoot, but also has this new sound to it that gives it a new feeling from the rest of their stuff. There’s sort of a hard rock feel throughout some of it, which is kind of a classic Switchfoot hook, but it also gives them a whole different dimension to work with to get sounds from that separate style as well as their alternative/soft rock style. This record was also produced with the help of Neal Avron, who has also worked with bands such as Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard, Weezer, and many more incredibly talented artists, making it pretty obvious that this guy knows what he’s doing.
So, here’s a summary: Fading West is upbeat, catchy, fun, and might even make you fall in love.
