If you ask any late 2000s kid what was one of the biggest alternative bops to hear at your Spring Fling dance, you’re going to get more than a handful of responses that say “Love Like Woe” by The Ready Set. Since his major breakthrough in 2010, the heart and soul of The Ready Set, Jordan Witzigreuter, has made his rounds amongst the music community. His most recent endeavor, signing with Hopeless Records, has landed him the spot to self-produce his latest album, “I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love”.
The album’s first two releases proved themselves to carry The Ready Set’s classic feel good, electro-pop influences. “Good Enough” came out with a bang in February and included a brand new music video through Hopeless Records. What was to come from The Ready Set was wrapped up in those three and a half minutes of desert dancing, and the final product does not disappoint.
Starting off with “Disappearing Act”, another previously released single, “I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love” takes Witzigreuter’s signature pop vocals and mixes them with upbeat electronic vibes. Some other notable tracks include “Being Afraid”, “Concrete”, “Run With Me”, and “Fire In The Sky”. Sticking to the themes of previous albums, Witzigreuter takes the opportunity to support his sound with meaningful lyrics. “Concrete” goes a little beyond the typical pop song subject matters and deals with being worn out by 20-years-old and still figuring out how to navigate a difficult relationship.
Throughout the rest of the album, glimpses of growing up, being in love, and a consistent element of empowerment make up a classic Ready Set blend of pop-electronica. One track that really stands out from the bunch is “Fire In The Sky”, a song filled with rays of sunshine and unconditional admiration. It’s something you’d think to find in a girl power or self love playlist. The best part about it? It’s from a perspective that only sees the good in somebody else and literally compares them to the sun. It’s something that everybody should take to heart – to see in other people but more importantly, see in ourselves. Coming from a self produced album making its debut on a new label, it’s definitely a theme that peaks through a majority of the songs.
“I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love” is an album that takes The Ready Set’s classic sound and keeps it up to speed with the way life changes and grows with an artist. For any fan that’s grown up a bit in the last five years but still wants to bop like it’s 2010, this one’s for you. Find it on iTunes and Spotify, and follow The Ready Set on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
