Ahead of her new album, up-and-coming artist Geneviève Racette recently welcomed Dallas Green, better known as City and Colour or for his work in Alexisonfire, on her new song “Someone.” The song was released on January 14 and perfectly encompasses all that the artists bring to the table.
Québécois singer-songwriter Geneviève Racette has been growing for a little while now and was even awarded Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her music exudes raw emotion and captivates you with its folk-pop sound.
Racette’s third full-length album, Satellite, is a nine-song body of work set to release on March 18. The album is said to “evoke moments of love, heartbreak, healing, forgiveness, and ultimately, falling in love again.” She will also be going on a 10-stop tour this year in the United States and Canada.

Through the power of Instagram, Racette and Green’s friendship came to be. Upon posting a cover of one of his songs, Green reached out to her, complimenting her singing and songwriting abilities. She sent him a few demos and the collaboration was established on “Someone.” Racette said “I totally heard Dallas’s voice when I wrote it but I was too shy to ask him to sing on it. There’s something about the melody that reminds me of City and Colour.”
“Someone” is “a slow-burning study on desire, temptation, seduction, and fantasy; and the guilt and shame that comes with it.” Beginning with soft and whimsical guitar strums, the song seamlessly delivers on Racette’s angelic vocals. The two artists complement one another wonderfully, making for a truly pleasant listening experience. The ever-so-faint sound of drums in the background shape the song and make for a well-rounded piece of music.
On February 13, Racette will open for City and Colour in Montreal. The audience will be lucky to hear her and Green perform this song live and it is guaranteed to be a truly magical experience. Racette’s talent is vast and we anticipate her to have a long and successful career.
