It is no secret that punk rock is making its way back into mainstream music. With newer artists like Machine Gun Kelly and older artists like Travis Barker paving the way, we have a lot to be excited about.
It was only fitting we create a grunge playlist for you to blast these songs and unleash your inner angsty teen titled HEADBANGERZ.
We always knew Hannah Montana was a rockstar, but Miley Cyrus has brought the term to another level. Using influence from icons like Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks, Cyrus’ most recent album Plastic Hearts is full of electric tracks. For this reason, adding her opener “WTF Do I Know?” was a no-brainer.
Machine Gun Kelly definitely comes to mind when we think of punk rock. His last album Tickets to My Downfall was killer and our playlist wouldn’t be complete without his song “concert for aliens”. Rising artist jxdn can be considered a young MGK with his heart-pumping tracks, so of course, we had to include his song “THINK ABOUT ME”.
The cool thing about music is that it’s constantly evolving. Rap rock is a new fusion that we’re crazy about! Artists like 24kGoldn, Juice Wrld, The Kid Laroi and iann dior fall under this category, so of course, we had to put some of their bangers – headbangers that is – on our playlist.
Girl power is everything, even in the rock world. These bad-ass girls are making a statement and giving us the belts we need. Songs like “good 4 u” and “i hope ur miserable until ur dead” are perfect for blasting with the top down. And, if you feel like you’ve heard those more times than you can count, try Maggie Lindemann’s “Knife Under Your Pillow” or Carlie Hanson’s “WYA” for that same effect.
WILLOW has made quite a turn around since her 2010 hit “Whip My Hair”. Diving into the rock world, she’s teamed up with grunge stars like Travis Barker and Avril Lavigne to reveal her full potential. This noticeable shift was first seen with her song “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l” which can be found on our playlist.
While they certainly are not new to the scene, bands like Paramore and Panic! At The Disco still dominate the rock world. Both have overlapped into the pop dimension while still including punk elements in their music. We wouldn’t be doing the two groups proper justice without adding their releases “Idle Worship” and “King of the Clouds” (in respective order) to our playlist.
Hop on the grunge wave and explore artists, new and old, for today’s modern take on punk rock. With crossovers into pop, rap and alternative, our playlist will give you that electric energy we all need.
