Shafik, the up-and-coming R&B/rap artist hailing from Las Vegas, has dropped his video for the high-energy single, “Desperado.” The track is from his album The Showcase, which dropped earlier this year. The strong-willed song exudes passion and honesty that really connects the listener with Shafik himself.
The video features the artist in a desert with nothing more than a microphone and the clothes on his back. It draws you in from the opening seconds. The video captures what Shafik is declaring in his track: the balance of light and dark. It’s hard to look away from his performance; which is perfect for a video with a simple set such as this. The focus is really on him and his relationship with the rollercoaster of good and bad.
“Desperado is about the balance between good and evil in this world. For the video we wanted to portray the back and forth of good and evil, that’s why we have night-time shots with fire, and day time shots with cloudy skies. We flip back and forth throughout the video and have my presence be the only consistent part, to show how I, and pretty much everyone has a piece of both sides within themselves. It’s just about how you want to operate within those sides,” Shafik says of the track.
