When we first met DAGG3RS, he was part of a group that we’ve seen for a long time, Saints of Valory. Now, he’s created his own music, his own brand and something that we can’t wait to see more of. Learn more about the artist and watch his brand new music video for “Summertime” below!
1. Your new project is titled DAGG3RS, what can you tell us about the inspiration behind that?
I knew I wanted a one-word name that was strong and that would match the vibe of the music I was hearing in my head. My dad was visiting China and sent me a picture and that inspired the name.
2. What can you tell us about Summertime? What was the recording process?
It was one of the first songs we worked on for the project. It was written and recorded in two days from start to finish in my little home studio in Austin, TX. My producer friend Maika and I wanted it to have a subtle tribal loop that went around in circles throughout the whole song to give it a mantra effect.
3. What’s something people may not know about the recording process?
We found a recording of some Jamaicans talking and partying and put it in the intro groove, you can hear them saying “come on!”.
4. What was the inspiration behind the music video?
We wanted to make a video that matched the vibe of the song, dark and lots of silhouettes. It started with an idea of us filming the whole video in a moving bus, but then we found a broken-down bus and decided to create the vibe there.
5. What’s next for DAGG3RS in 2020?
I’ll be releasing another 3-4 more singles than will drop an EP, and start playing shows. It’ll be fun to create a live experience with these songs.
