Making a pre-concert playlist in itself is pretty hard at times, unless you’re just dumping songs into a folder just so you could listen to them again. Usually, there is a particular feeling, vibe or even activity you have in mind when you go about looking for songs that fit that mood. With this playlist, my mind went to a lot of different places when it came to setting the mood for the hours leading up to the concert: It had to be upbeat, songs that I liked, songs that I could sing along to and even dance to a little bit as my friends and I got ready to go to the event.
Not all the songs are considered “party” or “club” songs. In fact, barely any of them would be played in a club. However, these are all songs/artists that I really enjoy listening to and if I am going to a concert, it is highly likely it is one of these artists performing or someone really similar to them. Having a wide taste in music, I was able to incorporate a lot of different artists and genres.
The way I went about picking most of these songs was just going to my favorite artists’ Spotify pages that I knew would fit the mood and just picking one song each from all of them. Beyond that, I just put my “Liked Songs” on Spotify on shuffle and picked songs out from the lineup as and when they played.
Some of the selections come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, with artists like Glass Animals, Post Malone, Mac Miller and Young the Giant. The hard part, however, was picking just one song out of their entire discography. Since the theme was to get pumped up and have a good time, I went for the songs that make me feel upbeat and the ones that usually play during my mini dance parties in my room. Some surprising entrants, for me at least, would be 6LACK and Duckwrth, as they aren’t artists I listen to a whole bunch. But there are just some songs that instantly uplift one’s mood and it would be a crime to not include them.
I wanted to incorporate different languages into my pre-concert playlist as well but decided against it because then it might alienate people who don’t understand the language. The only non-English song I included was “Parado no Bailao,” and it was mainly because I have been listening to it way too much these days and it just had to get on there because of it.
So this is it, this is my pre-concert playlist that will instantly uplift one’s mood and get them ready for their action-packed evening ahead. If not a concert, this playlist will also come in handy in the car or even if you’re like me having a dance party at 3 a.m. with your earphones in.
