Three years have seemed to change a lot in Post Malone’s professional and personal life. A visibly different look, he has exchanged his dreads for a buzz cut. He seems to be seeking a more mature image, both through his appearance and his musical objectives. The first song featured on the album, “Reputation,” is arguably his most vulnerable song Post Malone has released so far. Holding a more dramatic tone, he confides to the audience about his insecurities and inability to change who he is.
Post Malone has had fans long-awaiting Twelve Carat Toothache, having released his first single “One Right-Now,” back in November followed by “Cooped Up,” featuring rapper Roddy Rich in May. Post Malone continued this role by performing on SNL in May as well. The remarkable artist took to instagram to share his heartfelt performance of “Love/ Hate Letter to Alcohol.”
It appears that Post Malone has used his time away from the stage to change course, utilizing Twelve Carat Toothache as an outlet to shed light on interpersonal challenges and doubts he may have had during this time. The album cover itself is an image of a butterfly. The butterfly, which is a symbol of transformation and hope, embodies Post Malone’s hopes for the future and for his career going forward.
