This past week, Ohio-based duo Twenty One Pilots delivered an electric performance at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. Since the release of their song “Car Radio” in 2013, the duo has become one of the most unlikely pop acts of our generation. Their trap inspired tracks mixed with their rap verses have shaken up music in more ways than one, but they continued to prove themselves throughout their high-energy performance. While their setlist relied heavily on songs from their newest album Bandito, which was released earlier this year via Fueled By Ramen, there was a nice sprinkling of fan favorites from Blurryface, Vessel, and more.
The show’s production was on-point with the aesthetic for the band’s new record. Drummer Josh Dun kicked off the show by parading around the stage with an open flame, followed by lead singer Tyler Joseph appeared rose up on stage during the opening song in their set, “Jumpsuit”, on a flaming car wearing one of the band’s trademark ski masks. The dark and firey themes along with lots of red and yellow lights matched Bandito‘s sound and aesthetic perfectly, allowing fans to really be brought into the world the band has created around their new album.
Twenty One Pilot’s ability to interact with their fans is unparalleled. Joseph and Dun have the ability to make a 20,000 seat arena feel like a small intimate show with their ability to connect and engage with their fans.
