Alt-rock duo twenty one pilots brought The Icy Tour to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on September 7th. This tour was the second following the release of the band’s most recent record, Scaled and Icy. The show opened with an energizing performance by Peter McPoland, who played fan favorites like “Shit Show” and “Romeo and Juliet”.
Fans of twenty one pilots – the Skeleton Clique – are known to participate in camping days prior to a show. Attendees of the Nashville show even camped up to six days out. Needless to say, these fans left with memories of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The Icy Tour featured breathtakingly well thought out production, starting with bandmates Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph emerging from a teal blue door below the stage. The spectacle continued with dramatic and well-timed lighting by twenty one pilots’ lighting designer Tyler Shapard. A particular highlight of the show consisted of Tyler Joseph playing a medley of tracks from each twenty one pilots record – “Addict With a Pen” from twenty one pilots, “Forest” from the discontinued Regional at Best, “Ode to Sleep” from Vessel, “Hometown” from Blurryface, “Bandito” from Trench, and “Choker” from Scaled and Icy. The set continued with a campfire acoustic segment, featuring the talents of Skyler Acord, Todd Gummerman, Paul Meany, Dan Geraghty, and Jesse Blum – twenty one pilots’ touring band.
twenty one pilots certainly knows how to close out a show. Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph continued their tradition of climbing into the crowd, standing on a platform, and drumming along to the outro of their closer song “Trees” as an abundance of confetti quickly filled the arena.
