On November 12, Tori Kelly brought the Hiding Place Tour to the Paramount Theatre in Downtown Austin. It was a cold night for Texas but nonetheless fans began to arrive to the venue early. Every person in the venue that night sat in their seats way before the set was to begin in anticipation to see Tori Kelly live. The Paramount Theatre has a capacity of 1,270, so the crowd was able to be up close and personal with the artist for a fairly intimate show that was beyond words.
Tori Kelly opened up the night with her song Masterpiece, the first song on her latest album Hiding Place released through School Boy Records and Capitol Records. From the moment she took the stage, the crowd was captivated by her vocals and her honest, emotional vulnerability behind the album. Tori Kelly made the transition from one song to the next flawlessly and was able to keep the energy flowing as the crowd sang along. The night’s setlist consisted of hits from Tori Kelly’s first and second album such as Hollow and Psalm 42, along with mash ups of favorites. The mash ups of songs throughout the night with songs All In My Head/Dear No One, Nobody Love/Expensive and Questions/I’ll Find You/ Funny were executed extremely well. If you had listened to these mash ups without knowing Tori Kelly’s music, you would think they were all just one song because of how well they were transitioned from one to the next.
While many people have heard Tori Kelly’s impressive vocals on record, it was very interesting to see the crowd grow more impressed with her vocal range as the show went on and she extended her songs with runs and riffs. Throughout the entire night Tori Kelly kept reaching for more with her range and also made it a point to interact with fans and mention that she wanted that night to be a safe place for everyone. The artist also mentioned to the crowd that she had partnered with a charity that was in the lobby that night.
In short, Tori Kelly’s show was filled with pure emotion, passion and amazing vocals.
