The Veronicas kicked off their first tour in years in San Francisco, and fans made sure to welcome the Australian pop sisters with a special night the duo won’t forget.
The Gothic Summer Tour celebrates their newest album of the same name, an album they hadn’t intended on making but just happened when the duo met producer and artist John Feldmann for coffee. By the end of the day, they had written a handful of songs together.
The Veronicas took the stage by storm, delivering an 80 minute setlist that spanned their 20 year career. There was so much love in the room, the duo repeatedly got emotional and thanked every person for coming that night. Midway through the set, they talked about how they had a tour planned and didn’t think visas would go through. Then life happened, and then a pandemic happened. That was all in the past now, as they quickly moved from song to song and kept the upbeat momentum of the show going. Pausing only to take a short acoustic break to perform stripped down versions of songs like “Ribcage” and “Invisible.”
Of course, the dance party had to come to a close, but not before the biggest song of the night was played. The Veronicas again thanked everyone for coming, and with the biggest smile on their faces asked the crowd to stand for their national anthem. The opening violin notes kicked in, screams roared, phones were quickly raised and the bands hit song “Untouched” was performed in full force.
It was a special night for all, and an incredible way to kick off a long awaited tour.
