On Thursday, November 30th, the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago had a line around the block. While it was cold, misty and maybe even snowing, fans of all ages were waiting to get into the castle-like venue for an exciting night ahead.
Every year, Chicago’s alternative station, 101WKQX hosts “The Nights We Stole Christmas,” a series of concerts that bring some of Chicago’s most played musicians to the city’s Aragon Ballroom. Not only did the station bring that this year, they exceeded expectation with five nights in total.
We kicked off night one with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Houndmouth, and Alice Merton, who were the perfect kickoff to the five sold-out nights.
First, Alice Merton took the stage with her powerful vocals, killer rock melodies and outstanding lyrics. Although she was limited on stage space, Merton captured the audience, enticing them to jump, dance and scream along.
Next, Houndmouth took the stage, bringing their indie-folk sound to the stage. With more than 44,000 monthly listeners in Chicago alone, the band brought power and energy to the stage. Singing at the top of their lungs, Houndmouth were a perfect second set with powerful energy.
Finally, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats took the stage to overwhelming cheers from the audience. With a full band, which included saxophones, multiple guitars, singers and more, Rateliff & The Night Sweats had the room jumping, dancing, stomping and singing along. Although it was a Thursday night, that didn’t stop the audience from an energetic, holiday(ish) concert that exceeded expectations.
