Coheed and Cambria and Taking Back Sunday’s epic coheadlining tour lit up Atlanta’s State Bank Amphitheatre on July 10th. The show opened with a powerful set from Californian pop punk band, The Story So Far, setting the tone for what was going to be a nonstop evening full of energy.
Alternative legends Taking Back Sunday are still riding the current of their 2016 release, Tidal Wave. However, their setlist contained songs spanning the band’s sixteen year old discography, including fan-favorites “You’re So Last Summer” and “Makedamnsure.” Newer songs, like the deeply personal “Better Homes And Gardens,” showed that the band had not lost their flair for emotion and honesty in their more recent albums. Of course, in true Taking Back Sunday fashion, there was plenty of Adam Lazzara’s infamous microphone swinging to accompany the set.
Fans of progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria are in for an optical treat on this run of shows. Their lighting was absolutely dazzling, perfectly accompanying Claudio Sanchez’s soaring vocals. The crowd was deafening and sang along to every word. Their chant at the end of “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth” likely could have been heard for blocks around the amphitheatre.
This tour is the perfect place to meet a group of your best friends and scream your heart out into the summer night. Dates run through mid-August, so don’t miss out.
