On Tuesday, February 7, 2023 Suki Waterhouse brought the “Coolest Place in the World” tour to Emo’s in Austin, TX with Blondshell as her opener. Originally scheduled for small club venue, Antone’s, Suki was so popular they upped her to Scoot Inn, and upped her again to Emo’s due to an impending Texas thunderstorm. A Tuesday night show originally meant for an intimate venue turned into a sad girl party.
Sabrina Teitelbaum, who performs as Blondshell, is a fearless 25 year old songwriter from New York, now living in LA. Her self-titled debut album is set to release April 7th, and touring with Suki Waterhouse is creating all the buzz she needs. With almost half a million monthly Spotify listeners, Blondshell is on the verge of exploding in the indie scene. Her stage presence is soft and relatable. She’s here to vibe out with the crowd. If you like Samia, Slow Pulp, or Haley Blais, check out Blondshell.
By the end of Blondshell’s performance, the crowd was amped and ready for Suki Waterhouse. The lights went out, the guitar strummed, and Suki herself strutted on stage in a sequin cut out top with glittery black pants. She began singing the notes of “Bullshit” and everyone in the room sang them right back at her.
Suki Waterhouse is a 31 year old actress, model, and singer from Chiswick, London. She’s starred in movies such as Assassination Nation, Detective Pikachu, and Love, Rosie, but released her first single, “Brutally” in 2016. Since then, she’s released one EP “Milk Teeth” in 2022 and one album “I Can’t Let Go”, also in 2022. Now amounting to over 4.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Suki Waterhouse is taking the sad girl indie scene by storm.
Her stage presence is intoxicating. Spotlights and fans were placed on either side of the stage, where she catwalked from side to side, hair blowing in the wind, making eyes at her adoring fans in the front row. She played all her hits, including “Joanna”, “Coolest Place in the World”, “Moves”, and finishing out with “Good Looking”.
Suki Waterhouse’s “Coolest Place in the World” tour only has two more stops in the states before it ends, with shows in Los Angeles. The tour started January 10th in Santa Ana, CA and ends February 11th at the El Rey Theatre.
