We caught The Spill Canvas on the fifth stop of their Requestour. The band’s website describes the tour as one that “allows fans the chance to select exactly which songs they want to hear on the upcoming set list, creating an interactive experience like none other.” If you’ve ever been to a show and left slightly disappointed a band didn’t play your favorite song, well, The Spill Canvas has the solution to that. It was clear that during the show this idea paid off; many songs were introduced by lead singer, Nick Thomas, as songs the band hadn’t had the opportunity to play live very often.
It’s clear that this band and fanbase have been together now for nearly 15 years just from the way Thomas interacts with the crowd from onstage. Multiple times throughout the night he’d go on small rambles and conclude with “It’s fine, I’m standing up here talking to you all like we’re friends. We’re friends, right?” These friendly conversations continued as Thomas became choked up talking about his recent marriage and how he doesn’t know what sort of sad songs he can write anymore. This isn’t to say there won’t be new TSC music being released, so don’t worry. Their website also mentions that attending this tour “might be your last chance to catch them before they take a break to write their first album in four years.”
With that said, if you have a chance to catch them on another date during this tour, we’d definitely recommend it.
