An enthusiastic line wrapped around the corner and down the street before finally being allowed into the party at Cleveland’s House of Blues… hosted by none other than Simple Plan! Anticipation hung thick in the air as Story Untold opened the night to a warm welcome. The crowd was especially receptive to their rock-flavored rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.” Pop punk vets Hit the Lights had no problems carrying the torch as their fellow Ohioans in the audience sang along from start to finish.
Finally, Simple Plan took the stage to a roaring ovation. The band promised a party and didn’t disappoint. The band played a few tracks from their new record, Taking One for the Team, while making to sure to include every single classic hit along the way — “I’d Do Anything,” “I’m Just a Kid,” “Welcome to My Life,” “Addicted,” not even their rendition of the Scooby Doo theme song was exempt. Other set highlights included a beach ball celebration, an on-stage proposal (she said yes), frontman Pierre Bouvier’s best Mark Ronson impersonation, and an encore concluding performance of “Perfect” bathed in the light of hundred of fan’s smartphones.
