If you haven’t heard, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low birthed a side project called Simple Creatures. Packed into a small room in Los Angeles’ Belasco Theater, the band played their first show for 500 fans last night. Just the two of them walked onto the stage from the back of the room and opened with their first single “Drugs” and from then the entire crowd could tell they were in for a special treat. During a break in the set, they both wittingly bantered back and forth about the pains of a band’s first show and the elation of Alex when the show sold out in 30 seconds. A unexpected surprise during the set was when the duo performed a cover of Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus. The song was strangely fitting for the combination of the both of them. With Mark on guitar and Alex on bass, Simple Creatures literally shook the entire building.
As of the show last night, Simple Creatures’ debut EP is out everywhere. It’s a cool blend of both of their backgrounds and synth pop influences.
