Multi-talented pop singer and drag queen Shea Coulee brought their explosive opening set to San Francisco at the end of last month, delighting a crowd full of longtime fans and fans-in-the-making. An opener’s job is no easy task, but Coulee had the audience wrapped around their finger from the start. She played her role flawlessly, warming up the crowd for Betty Who’s headlining set, and introducing a new audience to her own music.
As the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 5, Shea Coulee is no stranger to the stage and certainly no stranger to commanding an audience. Coulee’s charisma, choreography, and onstage ease were the perfect recipe for a punchy, high-energy opening set. The setlist, drawn from her debut album 8, kicked off with a thumping “NEW PHONE WHO DIS,” which had the audience delighting over the irresistible dance club beat. The unabashedly confident vibes continued with “MATERIAL,” but Coulee showed a more vulnerable side with hypnotic, synth-heavy “LET GO”. One of the highlights of the night was “COLLIDE,” the ethereally produced single that she originally released in 2020.
From elaborate choreography to vibrant production, every aspect of Coulee’s performance was meticulously executed. Each song was accompanied by engaging visuals that complemented the flawless choreography from Coulee and their dancers.
The show may have been one of the final stops of the tour, but if this performance was any indication, Shea Coulee will be back with her own headlining shows before you know it.
