As the lights dimmed, the crowd’s energy soared as clips began to be broadcast across the giant screen on the stage. Finally as the crowd’s voices became louder and louder, Shawn Mendes took the stage, carrying his always present acoustic guitar. The entire audience began singing along, the songs that normally play at maximum volume in their headphones finally playing right in front of them. The day they had been waiting for for almost a year was finally here.
Mendes’ set was perfectly orchestrated, from favorites like “Stitches” to “Three Empty Words,” a song that we admit, we can’t ever stop listening to no matter what we’re doing. Mendes’ voice filled the room, his band accompanying him enough to be heard but not so much to out-sound the singer himself.
Mendes’ interaction with the crowd was like no other, making eye contact with the fans even in the back corner of Allstate Arena. Using a large, light-up “orb,” the audience was lit up so that Mendes could interact with fans of all ages.
After a few songs, Mendes made his way to the second stage, where he played and interacted with fans who were farther away from the stage. Overall, Mendes’ show was not one to miss and the Illuminate World Tour continues to impress us as it continues to tour.
