On Saturday night, English singer-songwriter, DJ, and record producer SG Lewis came to Portland’s Roseland Theater for the final night of his North American AudioLust & HigherLove tour. The album of the same name is set to be released early next January but Lewis has already released a number of tracks from it, like the uplifting “Infatuation” and “Call on Me” with Tove Lo that have kept fans dancing while they wait for the album’s full release. In addition to his solo work, he has produced for a number of artists like Dua Lipa (“Hallucinate”), Jessie Ware (“Hot N Heavy”), and Mabel (“Let Them Know”), and has become one of the most exciting names electronic pop in the process.
When the lights dimmed and the crowd cheered, SG Lewis appeared atop a platform at the back of the stage with his bandmates staggered to his left and right. The framing led your eyes right to Lewis and his array of instruments, glowing in the light and standing high above the rest. The music began to move its way through the speakers and he could be seen smiling at the crowd and his bandmates, conceivably taking an extra moment to savor this final show on the tour.
While AudioLust & HigherLove is yet to be released, fans still got to hear a healthy serving of the album on Saturday. Tracks like the aforementioned “Infatuation” and “Call on Me” were incredibly fun live, and other new tracks like “Lifetime” and “Vibe Like This” with Ty Dolla $ign and Lucky Daye show SG Lewis’ versatility as an artist. His fantastic debut album Times was also heavily featured, with tracks like “One More” with Nile Rodgers, “Chemicals”, and “Impact” with Robyn and Channel Tres being some of the most spirited moments of the night.
While SG Lewis and his music can’t be described by a single genre, it can perhaps be described by a feeling: joy. There seems to be an inherent sense of joy that radiates from within SG Lewis that translates in his music, and comes through even more pronounced in a live setting. Both behind the scenes and in front of the mic, he has become an undeniable force in pop music and we’re thrilled we got to see the final show of the North American AudioLust & HigherLove tour!
