An icon in the world of pop music, Robyn and her sparkling tunes have been capturing audiences for decades. After an 8 year album drought, Robyn released the dazzling Honey late last year. While a departure from the bombast of her previously released Body Talk trilogy, Robyn proved that she could push the boundaries of pop music while keeping her emotional and euphoric flare. Currently touring North America, Robyn has been showing night after night that despite her 8 year gaps in albums, she is still still the pop heavyweight that fans fell in love with. Her show last Friday night in Seattle was no different. Performing the vast majority of Honey, as well as standouts from her discography like “Call Your Girlfriend”, “Be Mine!”, and “Indestructible”, Robyn created a non-stop dance party for both herself and her audience.
The moment of the night however was without a doubt “Dancing On My Own”, where right as the gleaming synths were about to explode into the monstrous chorus, all instrumentation cut out, leaving the audience to scream the heartbreaking lyrics acapella. A clearly emotional Robyn basked in the spectacle of it all, allowing the audience a second to let the moment sink in before her isolated vocals paved the way for the pulsing synths to come back in full force. Not many songs can make an audience cry one second and rave the next, but “Dancing On My Own” is no ordinary song, and Robyn is no ordinary artist. A woman with dance music coursing through her veins, we feel honored to have seen the pop enigma in the flesh. Check out some photos from the show below!
