On her 5th night in North America, British singer-songwriter Raye arrived at Lincoln Hall in Chicago, Illinois. With support from The Moon Girls, the My 21st Century Blues Tour was announced after the release of her debut studio album by the same name. Opening her set with “Oscar Winning Tears,” the second song off the album, Raye expressed her gratitude for the last six months, and the overall support for her debut album. Coming freshly off a performance at Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA, Raye talked openly about her album as well as the tracks off it–covering topics from struggling with her old record label to becoming an independent artist, as well as other experiences in the industry many women and non-men are all too familiar with, as Raye discusses in “Ice Cream Man.”
The sold-out crowd was easy to please, from the more upbeat songs with the whole band, to the piano solos, where Raye covered songs like “Bed” by David Guetta to her own song “Secrets.” Racing against the strict 10pm curfew, Raye ended the night with “Buss It Down,” leaving her encore to be the one and only hit single “Escapism,” the final notes ringing out through the sold out crowd just as the clock hit 10pm.
