Without a doubt one of the most iconic and influential performers of this generation, P!nk gave Portland, Oregon an impossibly beautiful show full of gravity defying stunts, chill inducing vocals, and extreme showmanship. Opening with “Get the Party Started” from her iconic 2001 album Missundaztood, P!nk emerged on a larger than life chandelier like structure, suspended high above the stage. All while maintaining flawless vocals, she flew back and forth from the chandelier down to the stage with ease, perfectly setting the stage for the over-the-top spectacle to come. Moments such as the beautiful “Secrets” – which showed a dazzling display of aerial acrobatics – the zany “Revenge” – complete with a large than life Eminem inflatable – and the rocking “So What”, where she flew quite literally flew around the arena were among the most memorable and entertaining moments of the night.
Singing her biggest hits from nearly 20 years in the spotlight as well as material from her newest album Beautiful Trauma, P!nk showed the crowd why she’s one of the all time greats. Whether she was flying around the arena doing death defying stunts or brining the audience to tears with one of her signature ballads, the audience was amazed by every second of her grandiose performance. While much of the show as larger than life spectacle, some of the most impactful moments were the interludes that played between songs. Before “What About Us”, the screens played a montage of P!nk throughout her career, paired with videos and images supporting causes such as LGBT rights, black lives matter, and the me too movement.
What was met with the most uproarious applause however was after “I Am Here”, when the audio played from P!nk’s iconic 2017 MTV VMA speech played. She tells the story about how her 6 year old daughter felt ugly for being too masculine. As a response to this, P!nk made a powerpoint presentation of androgynous rock stars, telling her daughter that despite these people getting made fun of, they are never afraid to live their truth. P!nk herself had been made fun of for being too masculine, too opinionated, and too strong countless times throughout her career, but she assured her daughter that it had never once stopped her from selling out arenas. A moment as empowering as it was beautiful, P!nk proved once again that whether she is singing or not, she can entertain like no other. We feel lucky to have witnessed P!nk in person; be sure to see her when she comes to a town near you and check out some photos from the show below!
