Last weekend, Australia-based band Parcels turned the Hollywood Palladium into a massive indie dance party.
The band took the stage to what may have been one of their largest shows to date, and immediately started to put the crowd into what felt like a sort of groovy trance. Fans were thrilled by tracks played off of both albums Day/Night and Parcels, and even more thrilled when they played 10+ minute versions of some of the songs. The stage production was minimalist and did not feature flashy graphics or stage setup, yet still felt completely cinematic. Parcels truly showed their depth of musical talent by seamlessly blending soaring harmonies, an electro pop style synth, guitar solos, and even quieter moments. While most tracks fell into the category of a slow and harmonious start building up to a fully roaring psych rock song, the band still found ways of incorporating plenty of variation.
What was really unique about this show is that although Parcels played over an hour, the entire crowd in the Palladium danced the entire time and still left wanting more. It takes tremendous skill and effort to never lose the audience’s focus and put on a show like Parcels did. Needless to say, Parcels are a band well worth seeing live if you are even remotely a fan of the indie genre and want to have a great night listening to truly genuine band.
