For over a decade, Paramore has been touring the globe reminding music fans that it’s okay to feel pain and they’re not alone. On Tuesday night, Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro took the stage at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY to continue spreading their message. Paramore is currently touring in support of their fifth studio album, After Laughter, which was made as a product of a lot of pain and struggling the band went through during the recording process, according to Williams. Throughout the show, Williams made it clear to the audience that it was okay to dance, cry, yell, or do whatever they wanted – because that’s what their shows are for.
For a band with such an extensive discography, Paramore had a setlist that was so perfectly crafted that there’s no way any fan could be mad about the range of songs they performed. Each song arrangement was carefully crafted so they all complimented each other when played in succession. The band even worked in their beloved cover of “Passionfruit” by Drake. While so many of Paramore’s songs are meant to dance to, the band took a breather mid-set to play “Misguided Ghosts” and “26” back-to-back – a heart breaking, but also hopeful combination of songs that worked together beautifully.A highlight of the night was when Paramore brought out the band Work In Progress (which is fronted by Gaten Matarazzo from “Stranger Things“) to sing the band’s 2007 breakout hit “Misery Business”. The band closed out the night with “Told You So”, “All That Love Is” (which is originally by Farro’s other band, Halfnoise), and “Hard Times”.
Throughout the show on Tuesday night, Paramore continued to prove themselves and show their fans how important their music is. It’s unlike anything else, and the approach they take to creating a safe space for all that attend their shows doesn’t go unnoticed. While the After Laughter album cycle is coming to a close, there was no doubt in the audience’s minds that Paramore is here to stay.
