Following the release of his debut album, Flicker, Niall Horan has been touring nearly nonstop around the world since, and finally made a stop in Auburn, Washington’s beautiful outdoor arena: White River Amphitheatre. The last time the artist was in the state was in 2015 at Seattle, for the On The Road Again Tour with One Direction.
His tour mate, Maren Morris, opened up the show with her catchy country music that had an impressive amount of the audience singing along. She ended her set with a song that had everyone up and out of their seats screaming along, her hit song “The Middle” produced by Zedd. She left the stage for Niall Horan to take over and ease the crowd’s anticipation, and would rejoin later to help him perform their song “Seeing Blind.”
As soon as the lights dimmed, the entire audience stood up screaming as one by one Niall’s band stepped onto the stage. A harsh light was pointed centerstage, finally the silhouette of Niall with a guitar in his hands emerged and began playing the opening notes to the opening track on his album “On the Loose.”
Throughout his set Niall took moments to pause and interact with his audience. Every time thanking them for filling an arena just for him, and how grateful he is to be able to perform around the world. Telling stories about how he was inspired to write the songs he was playing, and checking in to see how people were doing.
Niall played each song on his record, and even covered a few songs including Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.” Of course, he even covered a few One Direction songs. His band momentarily left the stage to leave the attention on Niall, as he played an acoustic version of “Fool’s Gold” solo. As the show came to a close and the band left the stage and reappeared to play their encore, they began the final three songs with a version of One Direction’s “Drag Me Down.”
It was a show that proved how comfortable and confident Niall is on-stage and has mastered the showmanship to blow away his audience’s expectations. With his adoring and loyal fans behind him Niall shows he has the potential to have a lasting solo career of his own.
