Three years ago Maggie Rogers’ life changed when a video of a masterclass she attended in college that featured Pharrell Williams, who was visibly moved by what was at the time the unfinished product of her debut single “Alaska.” Fast forward three years and Rogers now has countless tours and a wildly successful debut album under her belt. Rogers is currently touring across North America on the Heard It In A Past Life tour, and her performance in New York on Friday night did not disappoint.
Roger’s music can be aptly described as a perfect hybrid of folk, pop, electronic, and R&B elements – making her sound and music unmatched. When listening to her album, it’s clear that she puts an immense amount of love and care into each song she creates, and that respect and care for her craft translates beautifully into her live performance. The honesty and humility she displays through her live show is not only inspiring, but encouraging.
So much of Heard It In A Past Life is about Rogers grappling with fame and how quickly her career took off after “Alaska” went viral. Roger’s connection with her fans is undeniable, and it’s clear that they are with her for good. From the second she walked on stage, one could tell that they were there to celebrate her success and life and the community her music has created. It was a beautiful night of love, music, and community.
