Louis Tomlinson brought his long-awaited solo tour to a spectacularly sold-out Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA earlier this month. The beloved One Direction member had his solo tour rescheduled multiple times since 2020, with great anticipation and enthusiasm building in the two years since. Unsurprisingly, a few more hours of waiting was hardly an obstacle for fans, with hundreds queued around the venue by early afternoon.
One of the most memorable performances of the night was Tomlinson’s heartfelt rendition of “Two of Us,” a song written in his mother’s memory. As Tomlinson performed the lyrics documenting his pain and resolve to continue living for his mother, the chorus of the venue joining together as one voice was nothing short of magical.
Despite the whirlwind success of his early years in One Direction, Tomlinson has remained unshakeably humble. He frequently thanked his fans for their support and dedicated a special thank you to the crew on the road with him. His genuine gratitude permeated his performance as he took great care to interact with as many members of the crowd as possible.
Honoring his roots in the boyband, Tomlinson performed several covers throughout the night. “Drag Me Down” and “Little Black Dress” brought the spunk and energy that Tomlinson is known for, while encore number “Through the Dark” showcased his vocal maturation since the song’s initial release. Despite the young age of many audience members, a large portion of the crowd–like us–have followed the English singer since his start ten years ago. After such a genuine and undeniably fun performance, we can’t wait to see what the next ten will bring for Louis Tomlinson.
