The final day of Lollapalooza 2022 was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. BTS fans lined up overnight to catch a spot for J-Hope, a last-minute addition to the headlining slot as Doja Cat dropped out as results of a medical emergency. As the gates opened at 11 AM, fands sprinted to the north stage, determined to stake out their territory for the 9 PM set that night. I began my day with Claire Rosinkranz, a young, lo-fi indie artist who recently gained a following on TikTok.
Next on my list was a trip to the Tito’s stage to catch Manchester pop punk band, Hot Milk. I came in just enough time to see them shred their last few songs as mosh pits formed on the concrete. Afterwards, I headed over to (what was left of) the Bud Light Seltzer Stage to catch DJO, a new act from Joe Kerry, formerly of Post Animal. The new project which features Kerry on lead vocals and guitar brought soft rock to an easy-going crowd. The highlight was new a song titled Chicago, written about Kerry’s days as a 606 residence.
In my eight years of attending Lollapalooza, I’ve never seen it as packed as it was that Sunday. This, unfortunately, caused some crowd control issues, and I was unable to get good seats for the sets that I attended for the rest of the day, especially near J-Hope’s stage. However, I was still able to catch a few sets including Chicago-based Beach Bunny, Charli XCX, and Dominic Fike, the Euphoria star who recruited Blu De Tiger to play bass for set. Last but not least, I once again found myself at the T-Mobile stage, to catch childhood heroes Green Day to close day four. But the weekend wasn’t over yet – I had one more show. COIN at the Metro for a midnight show close out the weekend. This may but have been my favorite of the weekend – they couldn’t have been more energetic as we entered Monday morning at the metro. And fans weren’t slowing down either. It was the perfect send off to my favorite festival. See you next year!
