Local Natives returned to live music this weekend at one of Los Angeles’ favorite summer venues The Greek Theatre. “We can’t believe we are here, we can’t believe this is happening” lead singer & guitarist Taylor Rice exclaimed after the first few songs. The feeling was echoed by the crowd as this marked first live show at the outdoor theatre since the pandemic, as well as the band’s first sold out show at this hometown Los Angeles venue. Opening were fellow Los Angeles natives Cherry Glazerr.
Local Natives put on a show that truly is the embodiment of a dreamy summer night. Last October, the band released an EP that had been written between their last tours and time off. Although it was their 2009 debut and their sophomore album Hummingbird that put them on the map for their indie success over the weekend they pleased new and old fans alike with a good mix of tracks spanning their entire discography. They even had several surprises up their sleeve, including bringing out Lucy Dacus to make “Lemon” a duet, and playing an unreleased brand new song. The band brought the most beautiful harmonies on “Ceilings” and even put on a light show during more fast paced tracks like “Megaton Mile”.
Local Natives only have a few more tour dates scheduled, both close to home in California. Check out those dates here, their live show is not one to be missed!
